Women’s Day
The air was charged with emotion as the Afghan community in Western Australia came together to celebrate International Women's Day. It was a momentous occasion, the first of its kind, and the pride and joy were palpable in the room.
The event was a testament to the tireless efforts of young and senior volunteers who had worked tirelessly to make it a success. The displays of Afghan traditions and culture were breathtaking, and every moment was filled with a sense of excitement and wonder.
But the true stars of the show were the professional Afghan women and those with traditional wisdom who came together to present their stories and inspire the audience. The memories of courageous Afghan women who were killed during the war were honoured, and their bravery and courage were celebrated with heartfelt emotion.
The sewing class graduates were also awarded certificates, a symbol of their hardwork and dedication. And all the volunteers were recognized for their contributions with certificates of their own.










Capacity Building
On the occasion of celebrating the capacity building project run by AFG Young Leaders for Afghan Women, we hosted an event to recognize the accomplishments and feats of the Afghan ladies who participated in the program. The event featured a lovely dinner and included speeches and poems from the attendees.
During the celebration, we highlighted the success stories of the Afghan women who participated in the capacity building program, and recognized their achievements in various fields. We also acknowledged the efforts of AFG Young Leaders for their commitment to empowering Afghan women and providing them with opportunities to enhance their skills.
The evening was filled with joy and appreciation as the attendees shared their experiences and stories of personal growth and development. The speeches and poems delivered during the event reflected the resilience, determination, and strength of Afghan women in the face of adversity.

FOOD SAFARI - AFGHANISTAN
The Food Safari was a truly special event that took place at the demonstration kitchen in the Ruth Faulkner Library in Belmont. This cooking series focused on the culinary heritage of Afghanistan, with authentic dishes prepared by Afghan women who come from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
At the Food Safari, attendees had the unique opportunity to not only taste delicious Afghan food but also learn about the spices, history of dishes, and cultures associated with mealtimes and dishes in Afghanistan. The Afghan women shared their resettlement journey and life in Afghanistan, providing valuable insights into their rich heritage and traditions.
The demonstration kitchen was equipped with state-of-the-art motion sensing cameras and TV screens that allowed for a clear display of the cooking methods, spices used, and preparation techniques employed by the Afghan women. This interactive setup made for an engaging and educational experience, as attendees could watch the cooking process unfold before their eyes.
Throughout the event, there was a palpable sense of cultural awareness and appreciation as attendees gained a deeper understanding of Afghanistan's diverse culture and history through its cuisine. The event fostered meaningful connections and conversations, creating a platform for intercultural exchange and understanding.

Building Bridges of Support: Welcoming Afghan Evacuees to Perth
This event was held in Perth as a way to extend a warm welcome to Afghan evacuees who have recently arrived after the evacuation from Afghanistan. The event aimed to provide a platform for the Afghan community to connect with local Afghan supermarkets, businesses, and other community members in order to offer support with grocery shopping, language barriers, and foster a sense of belonging in their new home.
During this event, attendees had the opportunity to meet and interact with Afghan evacuees, hear their stories, and extend their support. The event also featured a variety of delicious food options, including the classic Aussie sausage sizzle, rice and curry, and Afghan noodles.
In addition, there were activities for children, including a jumpy castle and sports like soccer and footy. Coaches were available to facilitate the sports activities and ensure everyone had a great time. The event aimed to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all attendees, including families and children.
This event was a unique opportunity for the community to come together, not only to offer support and connection to Afghan evacuees but also to celebrate Afghan culture through food and activities. By providing a diverse range of food options and engaging activities, we aimed to create a vibrant and inclusive event that fostered a sense of belonging for the Afghan evacuees and the wider community.
Everyone came together to show solidarity, foster a sense of belonging, and extend a warm welcome to our Afghan community as they started a new chapter in their lives in Perth.

Solidarity Rally for Afghanistan: Raising Our Voices for Peace
Join us in looking back at a historic event that took place on August 15, 2021, when the Taliban took over Afghanistan and the subsequent evacuation crisis that followed. In response to these heartbreaking events, a diverse and passionate community of approximately 4000 people, including Afghans, Aussies, and individuals from various backgrounds, gathered in Perth to show their solidarity and support.
The event kicked off with a series of powerful speeches by activists, community leaders, and individuals affected by the crisis, who shared their stories and called for peace and justice in Afghanistan. Emotions ran high as people expressed their heartbreak and concern for the situation in Afghanistan, and the need to raise our voices for those affected.
With signs, banners, and chants, the rally participants marched through the iconic Hay Street Mall, making their voices heard and demanding action to address the situation in Afghanistan. The energy and passion of the crowd were palpable as they peacefully marched through the streets, showing their unity and determination to stand in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan.
The event was a powerful demonstration of the resilience and compassion of the Perth community, coming together to support those in need and advocate for peace during a time of crisis. It was a powerful display of solidarity, with people from all walks of life standing shoulder to shoulder in support of a common cause.
The voices that were raised, the stories that were shared, and the impact that this rally had in raising awareness and advocating for peace in Afghanistan was impactful. It was a moment of solidarity, compassion, and hope, as we stood together in support of a brighter future for Afghanistan and its people.

Youth Capacity Building & Team Building Workshop
Our successful workshop focused on empowering young participants through interactive activities that fostered teamwork and friendships. They gained increased knowledge of nature and conservation through hands-on activities and discussions. Strategies for maintaining good mental health and well-being were also addressed. Mandurah Family picnic
A family picnic was organized in Mandurah, Perth to bring Afghan newcomer families together, promote youth involvement in hospitality, respect towards parents and elders, and foster a sense of belonging. Families enjoyed traditional Afghan cuisine, storytelling, mentoring, and playing volleyball, showcasing cultural traditions and intergenerational connections. The event was a heartwarming celebration of community, leaving lasting memories and strengthening bonds among families in their new home.













Iftari
On May 30, 2019, AFG Young Leaders hosted a heartwarming Iftari event where Afghan refugees gathered to break their fasts, share stories, and build community. With a delicious traditional meal, inspiring storytelling, and mentoring sessions, it was an evening of cultural richness, resilience, and togetherness. Now Ruz
Now Ruz was a heartwarming event that took place on March 21, 2019, in Perth, Western Australia, to celebrate the Afghan New Year with refugees and migrants. The event aimed to provide a platform for the Afghan community to come together, share their culture, and foster a sense of belonging in their new home.
The event saw an impressive turnout, with the presence of supportive Western Australia Police, respected politicians, and colleagues who stood in solidarity with the Afghan community. The atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement as attendees indulged in authentic Afghan cuisine, including culturally-rich and delicious food that delighted the senses.
The empowering speeches and encouraging messages aimed to develop confidence and promote leadership amongst women and youth, inspiring them to take on leadership roles and make a positive impact in their communities.
